剛剛在整理電腦硬碟,發現了這篇文章。以下是我剛從紐西蘭回台時,為自己寫下的一年紀錄; 真懷念放空的那一年&真想念當年勇氣十足的潔西!!!
I have been away from computer for a year, as I had worked and traveled in the south hemisphere from Nov.2005 to Oct. 2006. It was most beautiful year in my life. Because of my poor memories, I should write down my beautiful time ASAP.
Last year, I had strayed in the movies scenarios countries, The Lord of the Ring (in New Zealand ); and Cast Away (in Fiji ).It was fabulous to take a rest and abandon the boring office work and stressful life in Taiwan !
New Zealand is an amazing country with awesome sceneries and the friendliest people I have met in my life. The following is the brief of the one year working holiday life in New Zealand and fantastic vacation in Fiji .
Nov.3 ~ Dec 2005 before X’mas
Place: Auckland－Lake Taupo－Napier－Hastings (North Island)
Done: Asparagus Picking, Apple Thinning, Wiring in the vineyard.
Talk more: It was a cold spring for me from subtropical zone. Working in the farms was really exhausted; however, there was lots of fun in the vineyard such as the awesome view on the top of the vineyard on the hill was very impressive.
X’mas 2005~ New Year 2006
Place: Wellington City (the capital of New Zealand )
Done: Exchanged job for a home stay in Lower Hut
Talk more: It was the easiest exchanged job I had done as all I had to do was cooking meals for an old man. He was very kind of me. I explored all the free museums in Wellington and had visited every point of the capital.
Special Experience: I joined my home stay’s Harley Davison, really cool!
Footprint: Arapawa Island in Marlborough Sounds ( South Island )
Done: WOOFING on an abalone(Paua) farm.
Talk more: I had my second exchanged job here. I learned lots of gardening work and kiwi dishes here. Of course, abalone here is definitely fresh and yummy.
Special Experience:a.Living on an island was very quiet. The ferry transferring ( Picton - Wellington ) passing Troy Channel was the window view in my host house.
b. The blue penguin swimming at the wharf and the dolphins jumping near the beach were priceless experiences.
Jan 14~ Jan 19, 2006
Place: Arapawa Island –CHC-Akaroka
Done: A short of travel in south island.
Talk more: My host’s mother, Betty, on Arapawa Island drove me from Picton to Christchurch . I stayed in her daughter’s house for free. We had one day trip to Akaroa, the only one French Village in New Zealand .
Special Experience: a. Visit the cheese factory the way to Akaroa.
b. I bought the cheapest returned tickets to Fiji @CHC; that cost me NZD.350 only . Fiji , I am coming soon!
Jan 19- March 25, 2006
Place: Christchurch- Lake Tekapo- Omarama
Done: I worked in the Heritage Gateway Hotel (three stars) in Omarama, North Otago .
Talk more: The most boring period in my life in New Zealand as Omarama is a boring and ugly place. But I learned waitressing and housekeeping in the hotel. In a brief, it was the place to make money; not to live.
Special: a. A terrible drunk in the bar and horrible hang-over in bed the next day.
b. Car accident in Oamaru that hurt my right knee so that contributed huge uncomfortable at the end of my travel in New Zealand .
March 26~ April 28, 2006
Footprint: Christchurch- Greymouth –Hokitika- Hasst- Franz Joseph-Fox Glacier- Lake Wanaka-Queenstown- Te Anau- Milford Sounds-Doubtful Sounds- Arrotwn- Dunedin-Catlins-Invercargill-Dunedin- Oamaru- Twizel- Mt.Cook –Lake Tekapo-Christchurch
Done: Traveling with my three Taiwanese girl friends by magic bus for one month in South Island . I visited plenty of short tracks during the travel.
Talk More:
a.My first time to join a one day walk to walk on Fox Glacier.
b. My first time to experience cruising in “Quiet” Doubtful Sounds; watching bottle nose dolphins swimming with the cruise and kayaking in the stunning Doubtful Sounds.
c. When we witnessed the yellow eye penguins promenading in front of us, we realized that the penguins not only live in the frozen Antarctica but also in New Zealand.
d. The leaves painted golden Arrowtown and Lake Wanaka in autumn. A short walk on the hills or near the lakeside was pleasant.
e. Catlins coastline between Dunedin and Invercargill was sky blue and less touristy.
Special Experiences:
The car we rent was broken on the top of Bluff in Invercargill. (the southest point of south island) Fortunately, after almost one hour looking for help, we were rescued.
April-28~ May 7, 2006
Footprint: Christchurch – Blenheim
Done : Only 3 1/2 days working in the vineyard because pruning season hadn’t been started yet.
Talk more: Blenheim in Marlborough Region is famous for the best Savignon Blanc in the world. The vineyard country is decorated with golden leaves of grapes in autumn.
Special Experience: I got drunk when I had free wine testing from one to next, totally six wineries on that day.
May 8~ June 3, 2006
Footprint: Hastings ( North Island )
Done: Working in the apple pack house .I met lots of Asian friends and ate plenty of south eastern Asian food, such as Tom Yum ( Thai sweet & sour soup) and unlimited apples.
Special Experience:
Working with my favorite fruit, apple was the best job in my life. Eating fresh “ Pacific Rose” apples everyday keeps the doctors away.
